This standard describes the procedures for spot radiography of ferrous butt welds that have a joint efficiency factor of not more than 85%, or welded butt joints in ferrous materials for which the design unit stress factor does not exceed 85% of the allowable unit stress of the base metal. It also includes recommendations on acceptance criteria by which the welded butt joints are to be assessed.
This standard does not apply to the spot radiography of repair welds in castings.
